(point-to-point protocol)Le protocole PPP (point-to-point protocol) est le protocole utilisé pour la communication de deux ordinateurs utilisant une interface série, par exemple deux ordinateurs personnels connectés à un serveur par le biais d’une ligne téléphonique. Le serveur d’un fournisseur d’accès internet (FAI) procure à l’usager une connexion PPP afin que celui-ci puisse se connecter au serveur. Le protocole PPP fait partie des protocoles TCP/IP (transmission control protocol / internet protocol). Il est souvent préféré au protocole SLIP (serial line internet protocol) parce qu’il peut supporter les communications aussi bien synchrones qu’asynchrones. -
